Spellbinders Stitched Felt Reindeer and Candy Cane

Hello everyone! I have some really fun felt projects to share today. I recently received some new Spellbinders dies included in the Felt Stitch & Create Collection by Nichol Spohr. These stitching dies create some of the cutest felt plushies you ever did see!

For today's projects I used the Felt Candy Cane die set and Felt Reindeer die set

I love the size of these. The reindeer measures about 6.5 inches tall and the candy cane is about 5.5 inches tall. They would so be so cute on a tiered tray or incorporated into a wreath or simply used as ornaments.

I won't go into much detail about how to make these because Nichol has posted videos on her YouTube channel showing the process. I recommend watching them if you're new to stitching felt plushies. I followed many of her tips when I made these and they turned out so adorable!

Full disclosure, they are labor of love! These are not difficult to make but they will take some time. After I had all the pieces cut out, I picked out something to watch on my iPad and got to stitching.

Spellbinders offers some great felt sheet bundles. The felt I used is from two of those bundles and I'll list them below.

For reindeer:

Here are a few tips when assembling the reindeer: I lightly stuffed the body and head with poly fiber fill. Don't overfill or you can stress the stitches. I used a hot glue gun with a fine tip nozzle to adhere the cheek blush circles and hooves. I die cut four antlers pieces and glued two together for each antler. This makes them a bit more sturdy. Otherwise they would flop over.

Here are the felt colors I used for the Candy Cane:

  • pink and red - 100% Merino Wool Warm Collection
  • green - 100% Merino Wool Neutral Collection
  • I again used my hot glue gun to adhere the holly, berries, and twine bow after the candy cane was fully stitched.

If you have any questions, please drop them in the comments. If you are new to felt stitching, I know these may look intimidating to make, but trust me when I say they are worth the time and effort!
