Purple Onion Designs - Sunny Meadow Fair Birthday Card with the Gyro-Cut

Hello crafty friends! I have a special post today.  I recently had the opportunity to play with a "new to me" tool called the Gyro-Cut which I used to help fussy cut some of the elements on this card.

As most of you know, the rubber stamps from Purple Onion Designs do not have coordinating dies.  Being that I love to make cards with multi layer scenes, I always cut out my stamped images to build these scenes.  I use scissors to fussy cut around the outside of the stamped images but scissors can't get into the trapped space on the images.  I have used a traditional craft knife in the past for this task.  Even still, it was difficult to go around curves with a craft knife blade.

When I was asked to test out the Gyro-Cut tool, I immediately thought it could be the answer for cutting out these tricky areas on my stamped images.  In the photo below, I have used the Gyro-Cut to  trim out the trapped space and tight areas on the images.  I did have to practice with this tool to get used to the motion of the swivel blade and find the right amount of pressure to apply.  It's very comfortable to hold and I got the hang of it in no time.  I also found the Gyro-Cut handy to fussy cut the tight spaces, like around the horses legs, that are a little more difficult for scissors to get into.

You can purchase the Gyro-Cut and replacement blades from Amazon or directly from the manufacturer Crafty Products.

Now onto the details of the card.  I've used some fun images from the Sunny Meadow Fair collection: SYS - Clown and SYS Fairgrounds Background. I did not use the entire Fairgrounds background for this scene.  I used only the tents which I fussy cut out from the original image.  The greeting is from the Carnival/Fair Marquee Sentiments.

This card is A2 size.  I used some light blue card stock for the sky and added a few die cut clouds and clear sparkling sequins.  I die cut the rolling hills from Bristol Smooth card stock and blended on some Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide Ink to achieve nice bright green grass. I tucked the tents behind the hill to create depth in the scene.  I then added the clown and greeting.  I white heat embossed "have a little" & "on your birthday" directly onto the hills.  I then stamped the sentiment again on a separate piece of card stock with red ink and fussy cut out the "FUN"  I added the letters to the scene to complete the greeting.
